Writing and creative voice. Black literature and cultural preservation. Book bans and educational erasure. Race and education. Black intellectual life. Storytelling, identity, and liberation. The politics of whose stories get taught, published, protected, and remembered.

For more than 20 years, I’ve worked in education, supporting students, educators, and families, particularly in communities that have too often been overlooked. That work has shaped the questions I continue to ask about equity, access, representation, and who gets to participate fully in the spaces where knowledge is created and shared.

My work has never stopped at the classroom door, because education, culture, history, and storytelling are deeply connected. What we teach influences what we remember, what we preserve influences what future generations inherit, and whose voices we make room for helps determine whose experiences are understood as worthy of being known.

I Write Where Story, Culture, and Liberation Meet

Writing is where I explore those questions more deeply, through books, essays, and stories that examine voice, identity, culture, history, politics, and the ways we understand ourselves and one another. At the center of my work is a simple belief, words are never just words, they carry memory, challenge what we have been taught, and create room for something different to be imagined.

That belief led me to create Black Rewrite, a writing and learning platform built to champion Black and Brown writers, strengthen craft without erasing voice, and create more space for stories too often pushed to the margins.
